RATE ANALYST-REMOTE
Anchor Utility
San Diego, CA

Job Description

Job Description

RATE ANALYST- REMOTE

Location: Remote (U.S.) | Type: Full-time, Non-exempt (salaried, overtime eligible)

Can you read a utility tariff and spot the error everyone else missed?

At Anchor Utility, that instinct is the reason thousands of residents get billed correctly and our clients recover costs they’d otherwise leave on the table.

About Anchor Utility
Anchor Utility is a B2B utility expense management company serving the multifamily industry. We help property owners and managers bill residents accurately and recover utility costs. Our team is fully remote across the U.S., and our clients count on us to be precise, dependable, and Steady at the Helm.

Why This Role Matters
As our Rates Analyst, you make sure every new property is billed right from the first cycle. You’ll audit tariffs to find documented savings and revenue for our clients, track rate changes across service territories so we’re never caught off guard, and serve as the expert our Billing Operations and Client Success teams rely on when a rate question gets tough. Your work directly protects client trust and drives measurable results.

What You’ll Do

  • Configure and validate rate setups for new submetered properties, and audit provider bills on RUBS properties so the first billing cycle is right
  • Complete tariff and rate audits within 60 days of a property’s first billing, document findings, and identify savings and revenue
  • Monitor rate changes across service territories, research new rate structures, and implement them by their effective date
  • Translate rate changes into clear briefings for Billing Ops, Client Success, and clients
  • Resolve escalated rate questions and support account reviews as our rates subject-matter expert
  • Improve how we work by refining procedures and leading rate-management projects

This Role Is for You If...

  • You get genuine satisfaction from finding the error nobody else caught
  • You’d rather go deep on one complex rate schedule than skim ten
  • You like being the person colleagues come to with the hard questions
  • You can explain a technical rate issue so a non-technical teammate actually gets it
  • You manage your own work, hit deadlines, and don’t need someone checking in

It Probably Isn’t for You If...

  • Detail-heavy, methodical work feels like something to tolerate rather than enjoy
  • You prefer to have tasks assigned and reviewed step by step

What You Bring

  • 2+ years of experience with utility rates, consumption analysis, reporting, or similar analytical work
  • Ability to interpret complex rate schedules and tariffs
  • Prior tariff audit or utility cost recovery experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with minimal supervision
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, formulas) and solid data-analysis ability

Bonus Points For

  • Industry experience in utility billing, submetering, RUBS, or utility management
  • Experience across multiple states or service territories
  • Familiarity with state billing rules, such as submetering and RUBS fee limits
  • Experience with a billing platform

How to Apply
Submit your resume and a few sentences about a time you caught an error in a bill, report, or data set that others missed. We read every one.

Anchor Utility is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
