Job Overview
The MSL/Senior MSL is a field‑based scientific expert who strategically supports the research and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. The role is the primary communicator of AbbVie science within the territory with healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and maintain professional relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers in assigned therapeutic areas to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on the designated product area.
- Present scientific information and education regarding disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle to healthcare professionals including physicians, academic institutions, researchers, and other healthcare providers.
- Support research initiatives requested by AbbVie R&D, Clinical Operations, and Medical Affairs Departments, and physician‑initiated projects, including site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and external collaboration management.
- Prepare market awareness in new therapeutic areas, creating relationships for AbbVie in the medical community.
- Collaborate with internal cross‑functional partners and commercial teams to develop and execute account plans that support shared business objectives. Serve as a scientific resource to commercial partners when needed.
- Provide medical/scientific support to healthcare providers by answering unsolicited questions and addressing other clinically related information needs.
- Conduct ongoing training for medical affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel as directed.
- Apply core capabilities in strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
- Ensure compliance with applicable corporate and divisional policies and procedures, including accurate and timely documentation of HCP interactions and maintenance of annual expenses within budget.
- Reside in, or be willing to self‑relocate within, the New Jersey territory.
- Job grade, level, and title will be determined by the selected candidate’s credentials, education, and experience.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree required (e.g., PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, APP). Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline.
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to translate territory and corporate needs into actionable support for internal and external customers.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and teaching skills. Ability to work independently and within a team. Flexibility to adapt to new processes and cultures. Strong planning and organizational abilities. Leadership skills.
- Must meet HCIR credentialing requirements to enter facilities and organizations in the territory, including background checks, drug screens, and immunization proof.
- Ability to learn and convey clinical and non‑clinical technical information effectively.
- Strong engagement skills to help audiences understand and retain information.
- Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.

- Base pay compensation range is based on job grade and may be adjusted for geographic location. Additional compensation may be available through long‑term incentive programs.
