The acute respiratory area cares for COPD, pneumonia, CHF, and other respiratory patients and uses high flow and BiPAP. The acute respiratory area is next to the RT office and ICU for quick response to declining patients. The ED/medical-surgical overflow area handles observation and general MedSurg patients. The progressive care beds are inside the Critical Care Unit; travelers care only for PCU-level patients, not ICU patients. The progressive care area includes Afib RVR and medical and surgical progressive care patients; it does not take cath lab patients, patients from major cardiac or neuro surgeries, or major trauma patients. The intensive care area includes ventilated patients, sepsis, and respiratory failure. It has no neuro patients and no cardiac patients requiring intervention; patients needing the cath lab go to Deaconess. Patient ratios are 1:5 in MedSurg, 1:3 in PCU, and 1:2-3 in ICU depending on acuity. Support includes IV therapy on day shift, RT 24/7, an in-house hospitalist 24/7, and an intensivist available on days from Deaconess with a tele-ICU camera at bedside. A charge RN may have a partial patient assignment while remaining available as a resource. OT, PT, and SLP are available during days. A rapid response/code team is available. MedSurg/PCU patients have centralized telemonitoring with techs 24/7. Common drips include heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, pressors, and other critical drips. ICU uses Plum Medical IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing.
