Relationship and Couples Therapist
The Mental Wellness Center
Bloomington, IL

Job Description

Job Description

Licensed Couples and Relationship Therapist | Bloomington, IL | $1,500 Sign-On Bonus

About Us
The Mental Wellness Center (TMWC) is a values-driven group practice rooted in evidence-based care, community, and clinical excellence. We believe relationships are worth fighting for, and we want a clinician on our team who believes that too. We have built a specialty track for couples and relationship work, and we are looking for the right fully licensed clinician to join it.

Why Clinicians Choose TMWC

  • $1,500 sign-on bonus for new hires.
  • A practice built around you. We are a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming practice focused on clinician sustainability, not burnout.
  • A schedule you build. We ask for two evenings a week until 7 p.m. or a weekend shift of your choosing. Beyond that, your schedule is yours.
  • We handle the business side. Billing, credentialing, and insurance are all taken care of by our administrative team, so your time and energy go to your clients and your specialty, not paperwork and phone calls with payers.
  • A team that actually supports you. Regular team meetings, group consultation, lunch-and-learns, growth development groups, and ongoing professional development. You will not be doing this work alone.
  • Free EMDR consultation. Monthly consultation toward EMDR certification for clinicians who want to pursue it.
  • Room to build something. You will help shape and grow a specialty area within an established practice, with leadership that is invested in your success.

Position Overview
We are seeking a fully licensed therapist with specialized training and experience in couples and relationship therapy. This clinician will work with couples and relationship systems of all structures, including monogamous, consensually non-monogamous (CNM), and polyamorous relationships, and may also carry a small individual caseload. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based couples and relationship therapy using structured modalities such as the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), or similar approaches.
  • Assess and treat relational conflict, communication breakdown, infidelity recovery, premarital concerns, blended family challenges, CNM agreements and transitions, polyamorous relationship dynamics, and related concerns.
  • Complete clinical documentation within 24 business hours of each session.
  • Participate in team meetings, peer consultation, and ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to the development of couples-focused groups, workshops, or intensives.
  • Take part in marketing and outreach to grow your caseload and build TMWC’s reputation as the go-to practice for relationship care in our community.

Requirements

  • Current, full Illinois license as an LCPC, LCSW, or LMFT.
  • Eligible for insurance credentialing (our team manages the process for you).
  • Completion of formal specialized training in at least one evidence-based couples therapy modality, such as Gottman Method Level 1 or higher, an EFT externship, IBCT training, or a comparable structured program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse relationship structures without bias or judgment.
  • Ability to hold space for complex relational dynamics without triangulating or taking sides.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Gottman Method Level 2, EFT core skills, or more advanced training.
  • Experience with high-conflict couples, affair recovery, or multicultural relationship concerns.
  • Familiarity with CNM structures including polyamory, open relationships, swinging, and relationship anarchy.
  • Kink-aware or kink-affirming practice experience.
  • Experience with LGBTQ+ partnerships and diverse relationship structures.
  • Interest in developing and leading couples workshops or intensives.

What We Offer

  • $1,500 sign-on bonus.
  • Competitive pay of $51.25 to $66.15 per insurance-billed session, with clear progression tied to caseload milestones.
  • Full-time clinicians can expect approximately $61,500 to $79,400 annually based on insurance sessions alone, plus paid time off. Couples and relationship sessions pay $82.50 to $105 per session.
  • Health insurance for full-time clinicians (billing at least 25 clients per week).
  • Retirement plan with employer contribution.
  • Paid time off at your regular pay rate.
  • Full administrative support for billing, credentialing, and insurance.
  • 50/50 revenue split on any couples groups, workshops, or intensives you develop and market.
  • A supportive, collaborative team and a practice that takes relationship work seriously and will invest in your specialty development.

What Success Looks Like

  • 80% client utilization rate ([define, for example: 80% of your scheduled session hours filled]).
  • Clinical documentation completed within 24 business hours.
  • At least one couples-focused group or workshop developed per year.
  • At least one marketing or outreach activity per quarter.
  • Consistent billing aligned with employment status (full-time: 25 clients per week minimum).
