(Remote) Consulting Manager
SmartCOP
Canada, KY

Consulting Manager

Cayenta, a division of Harris; is seeking a Consulting Manager who will lead Cayenta CIS software implementation and professional services engagements from inception through go-live and stabilization.

This role manages a team of Application Consultants (AppCons) delivering utility and municipal customer information system (CIS) implementations - spanning billing, customer service, field operations, and integrations with adjacent systems such as Customer Self-Service Portal), MWM (mobile workforce management), and ERP/financial systems. This role drives delivery methodology, provides solution oversight, ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, and maintains high client satisfaction across the utility and municipal client base.

This remote role welcomes candidates anywhere in Canada and the US. Travel is required as needed, approximately 50%. Candidates must hold a current, valid passport and be legally eligible to travel internationally. This includes either passport based visa exemption or possession of any required travel visas for entry into Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean.

Salary: 90K - 100K

AI & Innovation Mindset

We are committed to leveraging emerging technologies to improve how we work, serve our customers, and drive business outcomes. The successful candidate will demonstrate curiosity and a willingness to actively adopt and leverage AI tools to improve workflows, solve problems, and increase efficiency. Candidates should be comfortable using AI enabled technologies, including copilots, chat based AI assistants, and automation tools, as part of their everyday work while maintaining appropriate judgment, security, and compliance standards.

What Your Impact Will Be:

Team Leadership, Mentorship & Resource Optimization

  • Lead, mentor, and coach Application Consultants (AppCons) and project resources across all consulting tiers to achieve project and business unit objectives.
  • Provide solution oversight across multiple concurrent Cayenta CIS implementations and mentor all consultants within that portfolio, with the goal of enhancing consultant skills to deliver the best possible project outcomes.
  • Allocate and balance AppCon resources across concurrent client engagements, optimizing utilization and billable ratios while preventing burnout - particularly during peak go-live and cutover periods.
  • Foster an agile, accountable team culture focused on problem-solving, continuous learning, and career growth within the Cayenta consulting tier structure.
  • Assist functional managers with mid-year and year-end performance evaluations (e.g., formal feedback through Workday).
  • Monitor overall team performance by tracking and analyzing statistics and trends (utilization, billability, ticket/incident volume in CayStone), providing reporting to the senior Management Team.

Implementation Methodology & Execution

  • Drive standard, repeatable delivery frameworks - including Cayenta's fit-to-standard configuration approach, pre-configured utility/municipal industry templates, and training-first user adoption - rather than defaulting to custom, waterfall-style delays.
  • Lead the effort on complex or "greenfield" CIS solutions and custom modifications on projects or in new markets (e.g., new utility types, new regulatory/rate environments, first-time integrations).
  • Review proposed solution architecture - including CIS configuration, integration design (CSS Portal, MWM, Financial Systems, AMI/MDM, IVR), and data conversion approach - for projects under their purview; able to influence internal and client resources when difficult decisions need to be made.
  • Own and drive continuous improvement of Cayenta's implementation methodology - evaluate what is and isn't working across active projects, partner with Directors on formal changes, revise methodology as agreed, update documentation, and train staff.
  • Lead client workshops to explain the Cayenta CIS product and gather requirements for configuration or customization as required.
  • Partner across departments (including Project Managers) to ensure smooth sales-to-services handoffs and seamless post-go-live transitions to Customer Support.
  • Conduct post-implementation retrospective summaries and coordinate handoffs per standard Cayenta methodology.

Financial & Budget Oversight

  • Establish, track, and manage Cayenta CIS implementation project budgets, cost estimations, and allocations.
  • Monitor project health, milestone completion, expected go-lives, and variance reporting to support monthly Estimate to Complete (ETC) aligned with percentage of completion (POC), in coordination with Finance.

Client Engagement & Escalation Management

  • Positively contribute to client relationship management with utility and municipal clients; coach project resources on good client relationship management (CRM) practices.
  • Maintain regular, transparent communication with executive sponsors (e.g., client VPs, Directors, CFOs/Controllers) and client steering committees, providing consistent status updates.
  • Proactively identify delivery risks (e.g., data conversion issues, integration defects, rate/billing configuration gaps), conduct mitigation planning (including implementation "pre-mortems"), coordinate change control documentation, and resolve client escalations swiftly.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships across the utility/municipal client portfolio.

Knowledge Sharing & Training

  • Apply broad knowledge across numerous Cayenta CIS client implementations and configurations to new situations - essentially "has seen it all" across utility and municipal deployments.
  • Be highly involved in planning and delivering internal training sessions for other Cayenta consultants, as well as the Harris user conference (as requested).

Operational Modernization & Efficiency

  • Champion modern, AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude, Microsoft Copilot, etc.) to streamline administrative burdens - such as Statement of Work drafting, status report generation, test case documentation, meeting summaries, and variance analysis - enabling the team to focus on proactive client delivery and strategic relationship management.
  • Develop and implement best practices, standards, and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the Cayenta professional services team.

What We Are Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience in a professional services or consulting role, ideally within utility/municipal software implementations (CIS, billing, customer service, or related ERP/EAM systems).
  • 4+ years of experience in a senior/managing consultant role, with a track record across 4 or more complex CIS implementation projects (or 20+ successful upgrades) - or 2+ years of formal leadership experience for candidates coming from a people-management track.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple concurrent software implementation projects for utility or municipal clients.
  • Working knowledge of the utility customer-to-cash lifecycle (meter-to-cash, billing, collections, customer service) and/or public sector implementation environments.
  • Financial Acumen: Demonstrated capability in managing project P&L, budget forecasting, consultant utilization, and contract scope control.
  • Methodologies & Tools: Practical knowledge of software implementation methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid); experience with PSA/project and test management tools (e.g., Jira, CayStone/SpiraTest, ServiceNow, Power BI, Excel).
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage executive client relationships and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

What Would Make You Stand Out:

  • Direct experience with Cayenta CIS or comparable utility/municipal CIS platforms.
  • Familiarity with adjacent Cayenta ecosystem products (SilverBlaze customer self-service portal, MWM mobile workforce management) and common client-side integrations (IFS, AMI/MDM, IVR, print/lockbox vendors).
  • Familiarity with modern productivity and AI platforms (e.g., Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or similar AI assistants) for reporting, plan generation, status reports, and workflow acceleration.
  • Comfort exploring and adopting new AI-enabled workflows to improve service delivery efficiency.

What We Can Offer:

  • 3 weeks' vacation and 5 personal days
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits starting from your first day of employment
  • Employee stock ownership and RRSP/401k matching programs
  • Lifestyle rewards
  • Remote work and more!
