Agentic AI Harness Architect - Moveworks
SmartRecruiters, Inc.
mountain view, ca
Compensation: 201.000 - 352.000

Agentic AI Harness Architect - Moveworks

  • Full-time
  • Employee Type: Regular
  • Region: AMS - North America and Canada
  • Work Persona: Required in Office

It all started when engineer Fred Luddy wrote code that automated a tedious task for his coworker, Phyllis. She cried tears of joy. That moment inspired Fred to build a company that could do that for everyone—freeing people from busywork so they could focus on meaningful work. Today, ServiceNow is the AI control tower for business reinvention. Our ServiceNow AI platform brings together any AI, any data, and any workflow— helping 85% of the Fortune 500® work smarter, faster, and better. We're building an AI-native culture where technology and talent are unstoppable together. And we're just getting started.

Join us to put AI to work for people.

What You Will Do

Set the technical vision for the Moveworks agentic AI harness, including planning, tool selection, context management, memory, critique, reflection, adaptation, and recovery.

Invent and prototype algorithms that help agents complete longer, more complex tasks with less supervision and stronger outcome reliability.

Design model-agnostic abstractions for combining foundation models, specialized agents, enterprise tools, policies, and deterministic workflows.

Develop approaches for agent memory and learning from execution traces, user feedback, and task outcomes while preserving enterprise security and privacy.

Create rigorous benchmarks and evaluation methods for tool-use correctness, plan quality, task completion, groundedness, policy compliance, latency, and cost.

Explore methods such as iterative planning, ReAct-style execution, self-critique, reflection, test-time computation, multi-agent coordination, and verifier-guided reasoning.

Build high-fidelity prototypes, identify the ideas that merit investment, and work with platform and product teams to define a practical path to production.

Partner across Agentic Systems, Search, Relevance, ML Infrastructure, Product, and Security to connect agent intelligence with enterprise knowledge, permissions, and actions.

Remain hands-on with code and experiments while influencing architecture, mentoring senior engineers, and raising the technical bar across the organization.

What You Bring

Deep expertise in machine learning or artificial intelligence, paired with strong systems judgment and the ability to reason about end-to-end product architecture.

A record of meaningful work on AI agents, reasoning and planning, tool use, coding agents, conversational systems, reinforcement learning, or closely related areas.

Experience turning ambiguous research questions into working prototypes, measurable hypotheses, and durable technical direction.

Strong understanding of the tradeoffs among model capability, context, memory, latency, cost, reliability, and system complexity.

Experience designing evaluations for probabilistic systems, including benchmarks that measure task outcomes rather than surface-level response quality alone.

Excellent programming skills and the ability to work directly in modern ML and agent stacks. Python expertise is expected; experience with production systems languages is valuable.

Evidence of technical leadership across teams, including the ability to create clarity, influence roadmaps, and guide other senior engineers without relying on formal authority.

Typically 8 or more years of relevant industry or research experience, or an equivalent record of exceptional technical and research impact.

Preferred Experience

A master's degree or PhD in computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Published research, influential open-source work, or widely adopted systems in agents, language models, reasoning, evaluation, or human-agent interaction.

Experience developing new agent architectures or core AI products in a research-intensive organization.

Experience with enterprise requirements such as identity, authorization, auditability, privacy, policy enforcement, and safe tool execution.

Experience moving ideas from prototype to production with distributed systems and infrastructure teams.

What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you will establish the architecture and research roadmap for the agentic AI harness, deliver prototypes that improve performance on real enterprise tasks, create evaluations that make those gains measurable, and guide successful approaches into the Moveworks Reasoning Engine and broader AI platform.

We value growth and community above almost all else, so we gather regularly for game nights, happy hours, tech talks, and plenty more. We think you'll like it here!

Remember, Bitwise is not a cult.

What We Look For

Bitwise hires talented engineers who are driven by purpose and who value a culture of technical excellence, growth, and overall wellness. We deliver new and innovative intelligence solutions to our customers at the very forefront of our country's national security missions. And we do it every single day. Our work matters, and so will you.

We ask that every new hire be able to:

  • Contribute meaningful thought leadership — if not right away, over time

  • Contribute their ideas and ideals to improve all aspects of our company
  • Allow us to invest in their education so we both grow together

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of AI infrastructure — the kind of platform-level work that powers real innovation at scale. This is a full-stack, hands-on engineering role with meaningful technical leadership responsibilities on a small, integrated team embedded within a larger AI platform organization.

In this role, you'll lead the design and operation of critical AI platform components, with a particular focus on scalable inference services and the broader AI application ecosystem. That means you'll be writing code, architecting systems, and making consequential technical decisions — while also mentoring teammates, coordinating cross-team initiatives, and helping shape the technical direction of the platform.

Day to day, you can expect to:

  • Design, implement, and optimize infrastructure for AI model inference at scale
  • Lead the development and maintenance of production AI services and applications, including retrieval augmented generation (RAG), autonomous agents, and other emerging technologies
  • Serve as the technical lead for AI infrastructure initiatives, coordinating work across integrated teams
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones and provide coaching, feedback, and support for your assigned team members
  • Act as the team point of contact for contract administration functions
  • Navigate ambiguity and define solutions for complex, underspecified systems and requirements
  • Establish technical policies, standards, and governance frameworks where gaps exist
  • Drive adoption of new technologies and engineering practices across the organization
  • Implement and oversee monitoring, logging, and observability solutions for AI services
  • Ensure the high availability, reliability, performance, and security of AI platform components
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels

This role is located in Laurel, MD.

Requirements

  • 12 years of relevant experience; a B.S. in a technical discipline is required, or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree
  • Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale production systems
  • Deep expertise in systems integration across diverse technologies and platforms
  • Hands-on cloud engineering experience in AWS
  • Advanced proficiency with Kubernetes administration and deployment patterns
  • Experience implementing and scaling observability solutions (APM, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus)
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence organizational change
  • Experience developing technical policies and governance frameworks
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
  • Ability to balance hands-on engineering with leadership and coordination responsibilities
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
  • Experience with AI inference serving technologies such as vLLM or LiteLLM
  • Previous experience with agentic frameworks, particularly LangChain
  • Knowledge of vector databases and embedding systems
  • Experience with high-performance computing or distributed systems
  • A track record of successfully driving technical and cultural change within engineering organizations
