Job Summary

Under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Regional Medical Director, the Site Medical Director is responsible for promoting and providing high‑quality medical care. The role works collegially with the Regional Medical Director, other physicians, physician extenders (e.g., physician assistants, nurse practitioners, etc.), dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and any other medical professionals within the site. Responsibilities include active participation in discussions on quality of care, patient safety, and patient complaints or grievances; maintaining utilization management and clinical practice standards; developing medical/clinical policies; and providing care through electronic medical record systems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Clinical Case/Disease Management initiatives.
  • Treats difficult to manage patients with chronic disease.
  • Utilizes Corporate clinical experts to assist in chronic disease management.
  • Reviews all patients to be presented at Collegial Review for off‑site/specialty care; prepares and presents cases at the Collegial Review.
  • Ensures that no backlogs occur for chronic care clinics and sick call by working with site providers and site manager.
  • Ensures appropriate infirmary care is delivered; supervises infirmary rounds.
  • Reviews care plans for all patients returning from hospitalizations, ER runs, and off‑site specialty care visits.
  • Reviews and signs‑off on labs daily.
  • Provides clinical supervision (a leader and mentor for) staff physicians and mid‑level providers at the site level.
  • Works closely with the site manager to ensure successful, efficient and effective patient care.
  • Responsive to Corporate, State‑wide, Regional Medical Directors and Regional and Site Managers.
  • Checks email at least twice daily.
  • Responds to the Agency Medical Director with guidance from the Regional and State‑wide Medical Directors.
  • Addresses medical grievances with assistance of Site Managers.
  • Communicates regularly with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists on site to develop a more holistic approach to healthcare for our patients.
  • Responsible for communicating clinical and administrative issues to Site Manager and Regional Medical Director quickly and efficiently.
  • Develops corrective action plans for clinical and administrative deficiencies in conjunction with the Site and Regional Managers and Regional Medical Director.
  • Performs death and case reviews prior to sending these reviews to the Regional Medical Director.
  • Performs Peer Reviews on Medical Directors/providers from other facilities.
  • Participates in monthly reviews of off‑site care, DME utilization, provider prescriptive practice, laboratory, and x‑ray services for the site in conjunction with the State‑wide Medical Director, Regional Medical Director and Corporate Director of Pharmacy Services or designee.
  • Meets with the Warden/AWP regularly and develops good working relationships with security.
  • Assists Staffing in provider recruiting initiatives.
  • Participates in provider training.
  • Participates in audits.
  • Ensures site clinical coverage; shares in after‑hours and weekend call duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the State‑wide and Regional Medical Directors.

Chief Purpose of this position

This position will have a role expanding patient access to cutting‑edge treatments including clinical trials in VCU Health’s Cellular Immunotherapies and Transplant Program.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Trains medical students, residents and fellows while in the clinic. Expected to actively participate in providing research opportunities to fellows. Mentors junior faculty.
  • Research: Participates and engages other members of the Massey Cancer Center and the Department of Internal Medicine in collaborative research projects. Position Overview

Emergency Medicine physician directs and provides licensed medical care in the specialty area of emergency medicine. The Emergency Medicine physician manages complex and unpredictable emergent situations. Department/Division Overview

The Department of Emergency Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center operates across multiple locations, including the University Hospital Emergency Department, East Hospital Emergency Department, and Advanced Urgent Cares treating approximately 120,000 patients in the Emergency Departments and 75,000 patients in the Advanced Urgent Cares annually. The University Hospital Emergency Department has an Observation Unit, HBO Unit, and an Oncology Care Pod.

The Department of Emergency Medicine offers two residency programs. The Emergency Medicine (EM) Residency Program is a three year program designed to provide education and experience in the clinical, educational, administrative and research aspects of emergency medicine and its allied fields. The Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine (EM/IM) Combined Residency Program has combined excellence in leadership, residency training and academic and patient care opportunities.

Research is a core mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Our research program is supported by multiple federal and industry grants and spans clinical, basic science and translational research realms.

The department has two divisions. The Division of Ultrasound Medicine focuses on patient care utilizing state-of-the-art ultrasound techniques. The Division of Basic and Translational Science efforts focus on development of stem cell therapy and the role of non-coding RNAs in acute heart failure recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Directs and provides patient care, including the teaching and supervision of medical students and residents for patients being treated in the Emergency Department, Advanced Urgent Cares, or other approved locations. Based on candidate experience, candidate desire, and department need, clinical positions predominantly or wholly in the Advanced Urgent Care environment will be considered.

Academic and educational development responsibilities including teaching, research and service requirements as assigned by the Chairperson, Department of Emergency Medicine. With availability based on candidate experience, candidate desire, and department need, full-time academic tracks include tenure track, clinical excellence, clinical educator, and clinical scholar.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited residency training program required
  • Current license to practice medicine from the State of Ohio Medical Board required
  • Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Emergency Medicine required
  • Active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required
