Job Summary

The Residential Specialist for the Safe House program is a full‑time, 40‑hour‑a‑week non‑exempt position. The Residential Specialist performs the essential functions indicated in this job description and is supervised by the Program Manager or Coordinator. During their assigned shift and as directed, the Residential Specialist is responsible for the upkeep of the facility to meet program and licensing standards. The Safe House program at the Maui location provides services to adolescent males, and will provide its residents with a continuum of services and activities while in placement at the Safe House program. The Residential Specialist supports the goals of the Safe House program through the essential functions indicated below.

Minimum & Essential Qualifications

  • High school graduate.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with troubled or at‑risk youth; or 3 years of experience working with clients in a residential and/or social service setting; or a combination of both.
  • Valid Hawaii driver’s license.
  • Valid TB clearance & pre‑employment medical clearance.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • DHS/FBI criminal history & CAN cleared.
  • Passes and meets the Salvation Army background clearance requirements and standards as an authorized driver.

Desired Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a crisis counselor while on duty—on the phone or in person with youth and/or parents.
  • Model appropriate behavior, including communication, decision making, problem solving, discipline, order, organization, cleanliness, respect for property, and work/education. Maintain a professional worker‑resident and staff relationship and boundaries at all times.
  • Support the service plan provision for resident clients developed and established by the Program Manager.
  • Participate in individual, group, and family counseling sessions when appropriate, upon request of the resident, primary worker and family.
  • Maintain all required documentation relating to resident and provide monthly program summary and statistical data to the Program Manager.
  • Participate in public‑information campaigns and assist in representing the agency in the community.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, retreats, conferences, growth groups, etc., as scheduled or required.
  • Handle grocery shopping and menu planning for the Safe House. Supervise residents in meal preparation.
  • Professionally and assertively manage client‑at‑risk behavior problems.
  • Work on all assigned work‑shift rotations, including morning to afternoon, afternoon to evening, evening to early morning, and weekends.
  • All duties are performed in the Safe House facility.

Is This You?

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing, developing, and delivering engaging and effective online courses.
  • Strong proficiency in eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or Lectora.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, and other video and sound editing software.
