In this fast-paced position, you will respond to calls from members and prospective members, answering questions regarding purchasing or changing health plan coverage for individuals and families/Medicare, and helping them choose which insurance plan is right for them. This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Security Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all visitors, staff, exhibits, and facilities. With a strong presence and a commitment to vigilance, this individual helps foster a respectful and welcoming environment for all who enter the Museum. The Security Officer is responsible for monitoring the premises, responding to incidents, and enforcing safety protocols with professionalism, discretion, and empathy—honoring the Museum’s mission to remember the Holocaust and educate future generations. This position works Sundays and Mondays from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Arrive on time and remain stationed at the assigned post throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Welcome all employees and visitors and ensure proper screening by operating the walk-through metal detector and X-ray equipment for personal belongings.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and visitor activity to ensure a safe and respectful environment throughout the Museum.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the Museum as assigned, including galleries, offices, all three floors, and exterior surroundings to detect and deter security risks or safety hazards.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to incidents, emergencies, or disturbances, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Operate and monitor surveillance equipment, alarm systems, and access control systems.
  • Assist with crowd control and visitor flow during high-traffic times, public programs, and special events.
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Prepare and submit clear, concise incident and activity reports as required and submit to Director of Security.
  • Collaborate with Museum staff to support emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures.
  • Enforce Museum policies and maintain a visible, reassuring security presence.
  • Participate in required safety and security training sessions.
  • Assist in managing lost and found items.
  • Remain alert and aware of surroundings at all times, recognizing any unusual or suspicious behavior; report anything unusual in or around the museum to command center.
  • In case of any type of emergency contact command center.
  • Always be concerned of the wellbeing of our guests and employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Florida Class D security license.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Military veteran, Police background, or 3+ years of security experience preferred.
  • Training and/or experience in de-escalation preferred.
  • Customer service background preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per shift, including frequent walking throughout a multi-level facility.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs quickly in response to emergency situations (e.g., up to two flights within 15 seconds).
  • Ability to physically respond to incidents, which may include running, restraining individuals, or taking protective action, as appropriate to the situation.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g., setting up barriers or moving security equipment).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and conduct thorough security checks throughout the Museum’s interior and exterior.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to monitor surveillance systems and detect suspicious activity.
  • Auditory ability to respond promptly to alarms, radio communications, and verbal instructions, even in noisy environments.
  • Ability to work in various conditions, including indoor and outdoor environments, and remain alert and focused for extended periods.
