Chief Operating Officer
Cnected
san antonio, tx
Compensation: 120.000 - 160.000

This Role Is Not For Everyone .It Might Be For You.

For over 25 years, Mavagi Enterprises, Inc. (MEI) and E.Q.U.I.P. Enterprises, Inc. (EEI) have created meaningful employment for veterans and people with disabilities through federal contracts under the AbilityOne/JWOD Program and EEI's WorksWonders program. Together, these two nonprofit organizations form a mission-driven, people-first enterprise built on real contracts, real accountability, and real impact. This is not a supporting role. This is the person who keeps both organizations running, growing, and delivering on the promise that brought them into existence. You will own internal operations across two entities, lead a team of directors, and report directly to the CEO. When the CEO is unavailable, you are the organization. You see around corners. You make decisions and stand behind them. You hold people accountable without losing them. You can sit in a board meeting and walk a contract site on the same day and be exactly who the moment needs in both places.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field
  • 10 or more years of experience in a senior executive or C‑suite leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience owning full organizational operations across multiple functions, not just managing one department
  • Proven track record of financial management, including budget oversight, P&L responsibility, and cost performance
  • Working knowledge of employment law, including ADA, EEOC, FMLA, workers’ compensation, and wage and hour regulations
  • Proven experience with federal and/or state government contracts
  • Board‑level communication skills, written and verbal, with the confidence to present, defend, and drive decisions at the executive table
  • Ability to pass a background check and meet all contract screening requirements

Preferred

  • Experience leading multiple nonprofit organizations simultaneously or managing a dual‑entity structure
  • Familiarity with the AbilityOne program, WorksWonders, SourceAmerica, or disability employment frameworks
  • Experience in contract and grant development, proposal drafting, and Statement of Work development
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, not required but a meaningful differentiator in our workforce environment
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

  • Own all internal operations across MEI and EEI, including daily execution, site performance, service delivery continuity, and organizational accountability
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of directors and managers, including HR, ensuring a high‑performing and mission‑aligned organizational environment
  • Evaluate performance against strategic and contractual goals and act decisively when corrections are needed
  • Serve as the acting organizational authority when the CEO is unavailable

Financial Oversight and Revenue Performance

  • Own the financial management of both organizations including budget development, P&L oversight, financial reporting, and cost control
  • Drive revenue performance and identify opportunities to grow the business without compromising workforce quality or mission integrity
  • Ensure federal and state government contract performance and compliance obligations are met across both entities
  • Execute documents and commitments for which the organization is legally liable
  • Lead contract renewals and day‑to‑day partnerships, and bring expansion opportunities and longer‑term strategic decisions to the CEO for alignment before moving forward

People, Compliance, and Culture

  • Hold ultimate accountability for compliance across both organizations including ADA, EEOC, FMLA, workers’ compensation, AbilityOne/JWOD, WorksWonders program requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local law
  • Exercise hiring and separation authority for director‑level roles and below, in partnership with HR
  • Partner with the CEO to build and sustain a culture of accountability, dignity, and mission alignment where the people we employ are not a program requirement but the point of the work
  • Ensure seamless alignment between HR, field supervisors, and corporate operations so nothing falls through the gaps

Strategic Leadership and Executive Partnership

  • Partner with the CEO and board of directors to design and execute the operational mission, organizational values, and long‑term strategic goals
  • Present to the board of directors at the CEO’s direction with clear, confident, data‑informed reporting on operational performance, risk, and opportunity
  • Maintain sharp awareness of the competitive landscape, contract environment, workforce trends, and industry developments
  • Drive grant development, proposal strategy, and Statement of Work development in alignment with priorities set jointly with the CEO

Required Skills

  • Executive operations and organizational leadership
  • Financial management, budgeting, and P&L oversight
  • Government contract compliance and performance
  • Employment law and HR compliance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Board‑level communication and executive presentation
  • Strategic planning and business development
  • People leadership, accountability, and culture building
  • Nonprofit governance and dual‑entity management
  • Contract and grant development
  • AbilityOne/JWOD and WorksWonders program knowledge

Benefits

At Mavagi Enterprises, we believe that people who do meaningful work deserve to be taken care of.

Health and Wellness:

  • Medical insurance
  • Dental and vision coverage

Board Eligible/Board Certified Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist

One of the leading pediatric cancer facilities on the West Coast, and the only provider of pediatric hematology and oncology services between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist to join the growing practice in Madera, California. The Center was named again in 2022 as one of 10 Top Children’s Hospitals in the nation by The Leapfrog Group for its excellence in patient safety and quality of care, and is also ranked as one of the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals in six specialties by U.S. News & World Report in 2022‑23.

Experience and interest in leukemia and lymphoma disorders is desirable, but not required for consideration for this position.

About Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center

Over seven decades ago, five young mothers imagined building a hospital just for kids in California’s Central Valley. The mothers’ dream not only expanded into a 358‑bed free‑standing children’s hospital with nationally recognized physicians and programs, but it is also now an entire healthcare network that serves more than 1.3 million children in the heart of California.

Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, including an outpatient unit and 36‑bed inpatient unit, provides the breadth of specialized services and depth of experience to treat the most common to the rarest pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions. With state‑of‑the‑art treatment protocols and clinical trials, the team saw more than 180 newly diagnosed oncology cases with 13,923 patient visits (7,946 oncology and 5,977 hematology) and 4,020 unique patients (1,453 oncology and 2,587 hematology) in the 2022 fiscal year. Because of the growth in both hematology and oncology, the Center is now staffed with five nurse practitioners and twelve board‑certified pediatric hematologists and oncologists trained at top institutions around the world.

Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center ranks in the 95th percentile for the number of patients enrolled in Children’s Oncology Group clinical trials and is one of only 141 federally funded hemophilia treatment centers in the country. Through enhanced therapies and supportive care, Valley Children’s cancer patient cure rates average 85%.

Valley Children’s incorporates comprehensive programs in Leukemia/Lymphoma, Solid Tumors, Neuro‑Oncology, Histiocytic Disorders and Childhood Cancer Survivorship. In 2022, Valley Children's was one of the top enrolling sites for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Community Counts Hemophilia Project in the Western States, Region IX, with 179 participants for the performance period ending in September 2022. Valley Children’s has also received membership by invitation to the Pacific Sickle Cell Research Consortium and the American Society of Hematology Research Collaborative.

The network includes five specialty care centers in Visalia, Modesto, Merced, Bakersfield, and Sacramento, and maintains a pediatric residency program and partnership with Stanford Children’s Health. Hematology physicians see patients at the Bakersfield and Modesto specialty care centers and provide telemedicine support for the specialty care centers in Modesto and Bakersfield to improve access to high‑quality care in the Central Valley.

About the Area

Joining the growing hematology oncology team also provides the opportunity to live in a unique city with three U.S. National Parks in its backyard, and within easy driving distance to California’s Pacific Coast, the Napa and Sonoma wine regions, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe. California’s Central Valley is home to the majestic splendor of Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, so outdoor enthusiasts will feel at home.
