Senior Software Engineer – Windows Sandboxes
nineDots.io
san francisco, ca
Compensation: 180.000 - 240.000

Make Windows behave like a serverless primitive Senior Software Engineer – Windows Sandboxes

San Francisco onsite | Relocation considered | Equity offered

Windows was never designed to boot in seconds, snapshot instantly or fork on demand for an AI agent.

That is exactly what you’ll help make possible.

You’ll join a well‑funded AI infrastructure company building isolated, stateful computers that agents can launch, control and discard through an API. As AI agents move from answering questions to completing real work, they need secure environments where they can run applications, interact with desktops and execute code.

The Windows platform is still being built, so you won’t be joining to maintain someone else’s architecture. You’ll be instrumental in defining it.

You’ll work across Linux virtualisation and Windows internals, tackling areas such as:

  • Windows guests on KVM/QEMU
  • virtio drivers and guest agents
  • Boot and login performance
  • Snapshot, restore and fork
  • Sysprep, golden images and image pipelines
  • PowerShell and WinRM automation
  • Remote display, file transfer and application‑control APIs

They need someone who has worked inside a virtualisation or isolation layer not simply deployed workloads on top of one.

KVM/QEMU, Cloud Hypervisor or Firecracker would be ideal, although deep experience with Hyper‑V, VMware, Nutanix, Citrix or Windows infrastructure at a major cloud provider can translate.

Go, Rust, C/C++ or systems-level C# can all work. What matters is your ability to debug across the hypervisor, Windows kernel, drivers and guest services, then turn those solutions into reliable production systems.

This is exceptionally niche, high‑leverage engineering. You’ll have genuine influence over the architecture, technical direction and foundations of a platform being built for the next generation of AI agents.

Onsite in San Francisco, with relocation considered and meaningful equity offered.
