General Counsel
ACC - Association of Corporate Counsel
jacksonville, fl
Compensation: 300.000 - 350.000

CAMPERS INN RV

The RVER’S TRUSTED RESOURCE SINCE 1966

General Counsel

Jacksonville, Florida·On-site·First in-house legal hire

Campers Inn RV is the nation’s largest family-owned RV dealership group: 50 locations across 20 states, roughly 1,600 employees, and more than 15,000 RVs sold a year. Founded by the Hirsch family in 1966 and now in its third generation, the company continues to grow through acquisition, including the recent addition of Lazydays RV. We are hiring our first General Counsel to build the legal function from scratch.

This is a working attorney’s job. Every legal matter we have today runs through outside firms across the states where we operate, and nobody inside the company quarterbacks it. We want a litigator who will take those matters over, negotiate resolutions before they turn into lawsuits, hold outside counsel to a budget, and give leadership straight answers fast.

THE WORK

  • Own the litigation portfolio. Run our consumer and commercial matters across the states we operate in, registering as in-house counsel where required and directing local counsel of record for filings and court appearances.
  • Settle smart. Personally negotiate customer, vendor, employment, and commercial disputes whenever a practical resolution beats a courtroom.
  • Work the coverage. Tender litigated matters to our carriers and pursue defense cost recovery.
  • Control outside spend. Pick the firms, scope the engagements, set billing standards, and manage total legal spend against a hard target.
  • Paper the business. Review and negotiate commercial agreements, dealer and vendor contracts, and real estate transactions.
  • Support the deals. Work alongside leadership and outside deal counsel on acquisitions and corporate transactions.
  • Back up HR. Advise on employment law, investigations, policy, ADA, FMLA, EEOC, and wage and hour questions.
  • Keep the house in order. Corporate governance, entity management, licensing, and regulatory compliance.

WHO FITS

You've tried cases or managed them end to end, and you'd rather resolve a dispute in a week than bill it for a year. You can walk into a room with a plaintiff’s attorney, a store GM, or an insurance adjuster and hold your own. You don’t need a department underneath you to be effective.

  • JD from an accredited law school and an active bar license. Florida admission, or ready to obtain Florida authorization promptly.
  • Significant commercial litigation and dispute resolution experience.
  • A record of negotiating settlements and complex business matters.
  • Working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets.
  • Comfort operating solo as the company’s only attorney, with a paralegal for support.

Experience with multi-location retail, auto or RV dealerships, consumer protection claims, or F&I compliance moves you to the front of the line. So does time inside a family-owned business.

COMPENSATION AND GROWTH

Total compensation of $300,000 to $350,000 , depending on experience, plus benefits. This is the company’s first in-house legal seat, and it will grow as the company does. The scope and seniority of the role are expected to expand with performance and the continued growth of the business.

THE COMPANY

We run on four values: Integrity, Continuous Improvement, Teamwork, and Sustainability . Campers Inn RV started when Arthur and Frances Hirsch got treated poorly at an RV dealership in 1966 and decided they could do better. Three generations later, the company is still family-owned and still runs on that idea: treat every customer fairly and with respect.
