Job Summary

  • Communicates and documents the education and training process of the patient or caregiver immediately.
  • Educates and trains, if needed, the home health nursing agency's personnel on the drug administration method if they are accepting the responsibility of administering the IV medication to the patient in the home setting.
  • Begins coordination after first introductory visit.
  • Assists the Nurse Supervisor or designee in the coordination of the home IV therapy for the patient discharge planners, case managers, home health nursing agencies, etc., in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the initiation of the patient's home IV therapy with Pharmacy, Operations and Reimbursement areas.
  • Documents the coordination arrangement and activities in a timely manner.
  • Communicates verbally and documents all coordination activities as set up.
  • Routinely monitors the patient's progress during hospitalization and after compliance during entire home IV therapy.
  • Triages any problems which the patient/caregiver or home health nursing agency's personnel and provides recommendations to solve the problems.
  • Documents all monitoring activities and communicates effectively with the branch for revisions to the patient's Care Plan when applicable.
  • Develops and maintains a processional relationship with case managers, social works medical departments and physicians at assigned accounts who have potential needs for home infusion therapy services.
  • Works with hospital discharge managers to simplify and expedite the patients discharge in a safe and timely manner.
  • Does the initial training and admission at the hospital unless circumstances do not allow.
  • Presents a positive and professional image when performing all duties.
  • Assists in identifying potential marketing sources to expand business opportunities.
  • Participates in the assessment of patient care services and identification of service problems which do not meet Intramed Plus' service goals.
  • Documents any service problems through the appropriate methods established, such as Incident Reports, etc.
  • Assess patient and chart observations of the patient's condition related to prescribed intravenous therapy, at each visit.

  • Administer prescribed infusions as ordered.
  • Assess Central Venous Access Device and provide appropriate care to include dressing changes and site care.
  • Obtain labs as ordered by the physician.
  • Coordinate with physicians, pharmacists, and other individuals of the multidisciplinary team in the patient's care.
  • Document and maintains a complete and updated treatment plan at all times. Meets required guidelines for documentation of certification and re-certification periods and obtains verbal orders per protocol as deemed necessary.

The MUSC Ashley River Tower hospital is an adult care centered academic facility in Charleston, SC. We have 10 operating rooms as well as a robust NORA practice including 7 endoscopy procedural areas and 6 Heart and Vascular and interventional radiology suites. OR coverage for the CRNA practice includes surgical oncology, colorectal, bariatrics, plastics, and occasional vascular/thoracic.

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures. The CRNA informs the physician of patient's condition during anesthesia. Performs pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and documents anesthesia notes on patient records.

Hours per week: 40

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly

Provide anesthesia care to a wide variety of adult patients. Administers appropriate anesthetics in consultation with the attending anesthesiologist in a manner consistent with standards of practice. Familiar with the use of anesthesia machines and related equipment, assist in transport of patients, maintain adequate patient records, participate in the teaching activities of the department, participate in a variety of continuing education program, and demonstrate a high level of professionalism in the performance of duties. Provide resuscitative care as indicated.

Minimum Training and Education: Must be a graduate of Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs approved programs of anesthesia, and certified, or recertified by the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists, and insurable by the medical malpractice insurer of MUSC for the required limits. The minimum education requirement for those hired after March 1, 2019 is a master's degree, or higher, with the concentration in Nurse Anesthesia.

Must demonstrate current competency in the clinical privileges extended. Must be proficient in the operation of anesthesia equipment. Current knowledge in anesthesia practice. Must exhibit basic knowledge of safety in a health care facility. Knowledge and practice of universal precautions in patient contact is required. Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with surgeons, residents, anesthesia personnel, and nursing staff. Guidelines for practice are described in the departmental policy and procedure book. CRNAs practice under the clinical supervision of the anesthesiologist and the administrative supervision of the CRNA manager.

  • Writes and updates client care plans at admission and as required.
  • Documents services rendered, changes in client conditions, and family/home situations accurately and timely.
  • Communicates with case managers or client's legal representatives/family regarding concerns or changes in client status.
  • Provides ACD/PCA/HHA/SHA training based on the approved training program.
  • Provides initial and reassessment nursing assessments on all clients, following the guidelines set forth by the Department of Health.
  • Participates in audits conducted by the Agency and/or regulatory bodies.
  • Responsible for annual Caregiver assessment ensuring effectiveness of the care being provided.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong organizational skills with minimal supervision required.
  • Competence in ensuring adherence to all pertinent federal and state rules and regulations.
